KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains a clean store environment and assists with housekeeping.
- Ensures that goods, packaging and bakery items are promptly off-loaded and stored neatly in appropriate areas including chillers, freezers, refrigerators, shelves and store room.
- Monitors stock levels and restocks refrigerators, chillers, freezers, shelves and displays as required.
- Provides assistance and informs customers about products and services.
- Answers customers questions concerning location and price of products.
- Communicates customer requests to management and places special orders or calls other stores to find desired items.
- Communicates with Store Management regarding customer comments, complaints, and overall product quality.
- Tags prices on merchandise and completes price changes for all products within the store.
- Sets up advertising and promotional displays or arranges merchandise on counters or shelves to promote sales.
- Answers phone and assists customers with queries as required.
- Maintains an awareness and knowledge of all sales, discounts, promotions, advertisements of the Company.
- Checks inventory daily for damages and expiries and counts inventory for audit purposes.
- Communicates with Store Management on all maintenance requirements for equipment and machinery.
- Provides fast, friendly and accurate check-out services for all customers using computerized cash register systems.
- Ensures that products are packed and handed to customers at check out.
- Maintains orderly appearance of register area.
- Balances and reconciles cash draw at the end of the shift.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Three (3) O’ Level passes including Mathematics and English.
- Two (2) years’ experience working in a Food and Beverage Industry; retail environment or customer service.
- Trinidad and Tobago Food Badge
- Interest in and passion for customer service.
- Good communication skills

A cashier clerk is a person who handles customer cash transactions in the Pharmacy and also works on the Pharmacy lanes assisting customers as well as cleaning and packing shelves and fridges when not providing excellent customer service and attention to Pharmacy Customers.

Cashier Clerk Duties and Responsibilities
Greet Customers
The cashier clerk is often the first employee a customer sees when they walk into a store, and cashier clerks are expected to act as the face of the business. They will give customers a warm and friendly greeting when they arrive and let them know someone is happy to help them and answer any questions they might have.
Scan Purchases
When a customer is ready to pay for their merchandise, they bring it to the checkout stand or cashier station. When the cashier clerk scans the merchandise, it is their responsibility to make sure it goes through the point of sale (POS) system correctly and that the correct price registers.
Process Transactions
Cashier clerks are responsible for every aspect of a transaction. They total the amount owed and process the cash, linx or credit card payment. This involves counting back correct change, making sure price on the item corresponds to price on the cash system, or asking to see identification for a credit card purchase. They also make sure the customer receives a receipt for the transaction.
Bag Merchandise
Cashier clerks will place the items purchased in a bag for the customer to carry out ensuring that each customer receives the correct item(s) purchased and ONLY those items.
Answer Customer Questions
Customers often approach cashier clerks with questions about merchandise or where to find it. Cashier clerks can also expect to answer questions about store hours, the location of the restroom, and refer any customer concern or complaint to the on duty Supervisor or Pharmacist
Cleaning and Maintenance
Besides dealing with customers and transactions, cashier clerks are responsible for maintaining the presentation of the business. They will sweep, dust, mop, and restock shelves during customer downtime or at the end of a shift every day in the areas designated They must be physically fit and able to lift up to 10 pounds and stand for 6-8 hours a day
Cashier Clerk Skills and Qualifications
People with a friendly attitude and a helpful demeanor who take pride in customer satisfaction will thrive working as a cashier clerk at our Pharmacy and MUST have the following skills:
- Cash-handling skills – monetary transactions are the principle responsibility of a cashier clerk. They need to be able to take a payment and process it accurately and promptly. Cashiers are responsible for shortages of cash at the end of a shift. Accuracy in input of transactions is expected.
- Basic math skills – even though the cash register does most of the calculations, cashier clerks need to have basic math skills to count back change accurately, deal with complicated transactions, or handle customers who are using multiple payment methods
- Customer service – it is the job of the cashier clerk to deal directly with the customer and help the customer have a pleasant experience when shopping. They do this while maintaining a positive attitude and a helpful disposition
- Product knowledge – the cashier clerk is often asked questions about merchandise and needs to be able to give the customer precise accurate information about the products they are looking to purchase
- Alertness – cashier clerks are responsible for large sums of money and valuable merchandise leaving the store. They need to be alert so they can effectively maintain the cash register and make sure customers pay for merchandise. Please include in the first line of your cover letter the phrase "I have the qualifications outlined and understand and am able to work the hours required." They must also be able to identify fraudulent credit cards use and counterfeit cash using the systems and equipment provided.
Cashier Clerk Education and Training
Cashiers must have at least 4 CXC passes at no less than a 3 level. Cashier clerks may receive on-the-job training in how to use the point of sale (POS) and cash register machines and scanners. They must company policies and protocol at all times.
Hours of Work
Monday to Sunday including Public Holidays as per a written schedule or roster. Must be able to work at least 5-6 days per week including weekends and night shifts. Must have some form of transportation when working the night shifts. Both morning and evening shifts are rostered. No option exists to work only a morning shift. Weekend and Public Holiday work is not optional. Shifts are 7am to 3pm and 2 pm to 9:00 pm. You are required to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to you shift starting for the morning shift. Accommodation may be made for highly qualified students attending classes 1-2 days per week Please note this on your resume if applicable
